For years, Indo-Pak. relations have undergone an up-and-down tendency dotted with short-lived optimism and depressing setbacks. The renewed warm-up of the bilateral ties following Vajpayee's Srinargar Initiative and Islamabad's reciprocation have again heightened a positive expectation for the peace process in South Asia. Several factors, to some extent and in different ways, contribute to that development, which include the actual involvement of big powers such as the United States, and India's new approach towards the regional in particular.
