The “Eight Banners” Garrison in Ili was the most important defensive force in Ili and even in Xinjiang in Qing Dynasty. It comprised Xibe troops, Suolun troops, Chahar troops, Erut troops, Manchu troops and New Manchu troops. In this paper the “Eight Banners” Garrison, including its organization, internal structure, regulations and decline are summarized.
