Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao’s reflections of science and technology and scientific spirits

康有为眼中的科学是科学技术,它是推动社会进步的源本。康有为的科学观偏重于科学的应用价值。梁启超强调科学的深层结构是科学方法,但他对科学的认识也存在误区,他把科学的实践所造成的灾难看成是科学的滥用。他赞赏科学的精神价值,但找不到这种求真的精神价值与中国求善的理想人格价值的通道。

According to Kang Youwei, science is scientific technology and the power of promoting the advancement of a society. This view of science places particular emphasis on the application values of science. However, Liang Qichao placed more emphasis on the deep structure of science, which is the scientific methodology. Like Kang Youwei, Liang Qichao also had some misunderstandings in his views towards science. He regarded the disasters caused by the practice of science as abuses of science. He admired the spiritual values of science, but could not find a correlation between the spiritual values of seeking truth and the ideal personal values of seeking kindness of Chinese people.
