The present index contains 113 genera of Mesozoic-Cenozoic fossil plants established for the Chinese specimens in the years of 1865-1990, exclusive of the genera established for dispersed miospores, megaspores and a majority of lower plants, such as bacteria, cyanobacteria, algae and some fungi, but including a few lower plants which are traditionally studied together with the higher ones, such as Liaoningnema and Stigmateacites (belonging to Eumyceta), and Foliosites (designated to Lichenes). For the type species or representative species, the genus, species, and authorship are given, followed by the date, and numbers of page, plate and (or) text-figures. In addition, a brief notation is cited concerning the taxonomic status, geological horizon and age, and geographic origin.The index consists of two parts. The first part is a systematic arrangement of the genera according to the major plant divisions. The second part is a list of the same content, but arranged in alphabetical order of the generic names.
