Within literature of Sui, Tang, and the Five Dynasties, that of the Tang constitute the main body onwhich is collectively reflected the achievements of literary research of the 20th century. The gains mainly lie in acomprehensive review of literature of all different genres, the grasp of the integration between literary phenomena,systematic collection of materials and their textual criticism, renewal of concept, and an emphasis on scientific ap-proaches.
