The Nature and the Working Process of Simultaneous Interpreting

同声传译已有五十多年的历史。随着同传需求的增大,对同传质量的要求也相应变高。本文简单介绍了同传的工作性质,特点和工作原理,并着重从经验研究出发,阐述了影响同传质量的一些主要内,外部的变数及有效的解决策略。旨在让译员和教员意识到同传除译员本身应预备的所有条件外,更应注意到在实际工作中,影响同传交流的其他因素。

Simultaneous Interpreting has a history of over fifty years. With the need for conference interpreters growing, there is also an increasing demand for improvement in the interpreters' performance. This paper briefly introduces the nature, the unique characteristics and the working principles of simultaneous interpreting. Then, based on empirical study, the author elaborates on some major variables which influence the actual result of simultaneous interpreting. The author also argues that apart from seeking to fulfil the demanding requirements expected of a simultaneous interpreter, special attention must be paid, by interpreters and instructors alike, to the in-situ factors which can directly affect the performance of an interpreter. In addition, the author provides effective strategies to help both interpreters and instructors be alert to these factors.
