白嘉轩是20世纪上半叶中国新、旧时代交替下的一个新的农民形象,在他的身上既体现了中国传统文化的精髓,也深刻地暴露出中国封建伦理道德的腐朽和愚昧。由于进步、消极的两种意识在他头脑中的融合、冲突,因此导致其行为"动机与结果的完全悖反",体现了其鲜明的悲剧性。

Bai Jia-xuan is a new image of Chinese peasants in the first half of 20th century when China was at the turn of the new ages. This image not only embodies the essence of Chinese traditional culture but also exposes the degeneration and ignorance of Chinese Feudal ethic morals. The mixing of both the positive and negative attitudes and their fierce conflicts give rise to the contradiction between the motive and the consequence of Bai Jia-xuan's behaviors. His fate is the best reflection of tragic features of his time.
