中国新时期话剧创作虽然只有 2 0多年的时间 ,但在文化现代化的道路上却走得比此前的 70年还远。这是因为新时期以前的 70年中国话剧并没有一直沿着现代化的方向发展 ,而是被极端的政治文化所推动迂回到了五四之前。新时期话剧则不仅重新找到了现代文化的起点 ,而且迅速与世界接轨 ,完成了现代文化在当下全球化语境中的一次巨大飞跃———迈向大众文化 ,并以其独具的特点为大众文化和人类总体文化水准的提高提供了有益的启示。

Although the creation of Chinese modern drama in the new era started just 20 years ago, it goes further than what happened 70 years ago in cultural modernization. It is because before 1980s Chinese modern drama didn't always go towards modernization, but went back to a situation before the May 4th Movement under a push of extreme political culture. Modern drama in the new era takes modern culture as starting-point, links up with the world, and realizes a leap in modern culture in the context of globalization to popular culture. Moreover, with its unique features, modern drama provides great inspiration to the improvement of popular culture and the overall cultural level of humanity.
