This paper considers Faulkner's fiction from the standpoint of recent developments in the study of the U.S. South in a post-colonial context, drawing on recent postcolonial work by Homi Bhabha, Robert J.C.Young, Edward Said to interpret Faulkner's representation of the South's relation to the history of New world colonization mainly from Absalom, absalom! and Light in August. Since post-colonial theory and analysis have revolutionized the study of British literature and that of its fair-flung English-speaking ex-colonies, the time is ripe to study U.S. Southern literature and Faulkner especially, from this standpoint. A post-colonial Faulkner will undoubtedly be one of the ways we come ot a new appreciation of Faulkner as a world writer at the beginning of the 21st century.
