"兽性"在西方文化中是一个贬义词,但是美国作家朱娜·巴内斯却宣称"兽性"乃是一个富于魅力的词。在她的代表作《夜林》中探索了人类在"人性"和"兽性"之间游移的"中间"状态,并且试图寻找出生存并超越于这种无奈状态的道路,即"仁爱之路"、"智慧之路"、"愚人之路"。

'Beast'is a derogatory term in Western Culture, but Djuna Barnes, a minor but great American novelist, advocates that'beast'is an attractive word. In her masterpiece, Nightwood, she explores human beings' changeable 'middle condition'between human and beast and tries to show us a way to survive and overpass this dilemma, through love, wisdom and ignorance.
