Public folklore, which means both practices like displaying or applying folklore in a new context and academic researches into these practices, emerged and developed in late 1960s and early 1970s. It has grown into one of the most important sections in American folklore. Great achievements have been made in theoretical summarization and academic reflection as well as in practices. They not only provide theoretical guidance to practice, but also further promote the improvement and development of theories of American folklore.
