张炎是宋元之交的一位著名词人。他在经历了国破家亡的惨剧之后,将身世之悲、家国之痛写入艳情词中,使其词具有更丰富的内涵,反映了更为广阔的生活内容。张炎由一己之漂泊落魄,进而对歌妓产生一种同情之感,以尊重的目光来看待这些沦落风尘之中的社会下层女子。出现于张炎笔下的女性,一个个高雅、可爱、可亲、可敬,栩栩如生。他的艳情词成为一种雅化了的艳情词,情味深婉,含蓄蕴藉,耐人品味。正因为具有了这些新的特色,故张炎能在宋元之间翘楚东南。
Zhang Yan was a famous writer of ci poetry in the transitional period between the Song Dynasty and the Yuan Dynasty. He produced the ci poetry , which consisting of the sorrow of his life experience and the grief of his family and homeland, having the more abundant connotation and reflecting the more capacious content of live, after he had suffered the tragic of national calamity and family perdition. Zhang Yan sympathized the geisha due to his vagrancy and abjection, looked on the women of the lower classes , who had fell low , in the respectful view. Every woman in his works was decorous, lovely, accessibly, worshipful, visual. His love ci poetry became elegance, which having the profound flavor, containing the connotation, affording for thought. Because of these new characteristic, Zhang Yan could become the outstanding writer of ci poetry, surpassing his fellows in the Changjiang River in the transitional period between the Song Dynasty and the Yuan Dynasty.
