A review of the academic and cultural contributions of the Shen family in Wuxing Wukang in the Southern Dynasties (Ⅰ)

吴兴武康沈氏虽“家世为将” ,但自晋宋以降 ,日渐崇尚文教 ,致力学术文化。及至齐、梁之世 ,沈氏经学臻于繁荣之境 ,产生了一大批经师和著作 ,其成就超过了不少江东儒学旧族。与此同时 ,沈氏人物重视文学才艺 ,造就出以沈约为代表的家族文士群体。这推动着沈氏家族的“士族化”进程 ,决定了其长盛不衰的命运。

There had been many military officers for generations in the Shen family in Wuxing Wukang.But after the Jin Dynasty and the Song Dynasty the family began to advocate culture and education and was devoted to academy and culture.In the Qi Dynasty and the Liang Dynasty the Shen family achieved great achievements in the study of Confucian classics by producing a great number of works and experts in the study of Confucian classics.In addition,the family attached importance to literature and talent and skills and brought up a family intellectual group represented by Shen Yue,which promoted the aristocratization of the family and determined its ever-prosperity.
