明太祖朱元璋目睹元朝官吏的腐败 ,惧于农民起义的威力 ,在明初采取制定酷律、加强教化、整顿吏治 ,严厉查处、强化监督等一系列反贪治赃措施 ,对平息社会动荡 ,恢复经济发展 ,健全封建社会官吏的考课、监察制度等起了重要的作用。他所采用的一些反贪治赃的措施和方法对我们现代社会的反腐败斗争仍有一定的启示。

Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, saw with his own eyes his officials corruption . At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, for fear of peasant uprisings, he took a series of measures to ensure rigid disciplines, strenghened enlightenment by education, stern investigation and prosecution and intensive supervision in order to oppose and punish bribe-taking. These measures played an important role in subsiding social upheaval, bringing order into the local administration, restoring economic development and amplifying the systems in the assessment of the service of the officals and supervision in the feudal society. His measures against bribe-taking remain an enlightenment on the struggle against corruption in our moderm society.
