Introduced in this paper are the concepts and application of noninteractive literature-based discovery and the function and procedure of a man-computer interactive system named as ARROWSMITH. Also, it depicted in detail how to conduct noninterative literature-based discovery on MEDLINE by making use of ARROWSMITH with diagrams. The authors believed that the methods of the noninteractive literature-based discovery could broaden the fields for information research and information retrieval and point out a new way forward for information science, and vitalize it greatly.
