建设西伯利亚大铁路是近代俄国发展经济的一个重大举措,是调整远东政策的一个重大标志。维特是西伯利亚大铁路的缔造者,他赋予了铁路高度的战略政治意义、军事意义和经济意义。在铁路筹建的实践中,他不仅解决了筑路的经费难题,影响了铁路的走向,而且还主持了与中国铁路的交涉事宜。

The Trans-Siberian Railroad is a significant measure to develop economy by Russia and also a significant mark that Russia adjusted policy of Far East. Witte was the founder of the Trans-Siberian Railroad. He thought the Railroad would not only bring about economic profits, but also strategic, political and military benefits. In building the railroad, he not only solved problem of cost of building railroad and decided eventually route of the railway, but also presided over diplomatic affairs about the railroad with China.
