Comparison Between Phonemes of Chinese Consonants and English Consonants

通过比较总结出:声带颤动与否是英语辅音音位的最重要的区别性特征之一,而送气与否则是汉语辅音音位的最重要的区别性特征之一;英汉辅音音位有很大的差别,但也有许多相似之处,特别是有些爆破音,尽管看上去很相似,但他们却存在本质上的差别,若不能正确区别他们将导致交际的失败。

This paper compares the two systems of English consonants and Chinese consonants,and summarizes that vocal vibration or not is one of the most important distinctive features of English consonants,while aspiration or not is one of the most important distinctive features of Chinese consonants; and that although the consonant system of the Chinese PU Tong Hua is quite different from that of the English language,there are still some similarities;especially, some of the explosives appear very much alike,but qualitative differences actually exist. Incompetence of distinguishing them will lead to the failure of communication.
