Sherwood Andersons“Death in the Woods”does not belong to a psychological or moral type of genre. What he wants is not plot,but form, a more elusive and difficult thing to come at. What the story is about is not the meaning itself but the search for a means to understand it. The term of“metafiction”is introduced to denote Andersons story as an exploration of the use of fiction as its own metaphor of self creation.
