The different features of eastern and western dances are formed because of the difference between eastern and western cultures. As to stage image, western ballet is a dance of“space”while Chinese dance is of“time”.That is to say, Chinese dancers strive for curved, round and twisted figure, and tend to stamp on the earth, whereas westerners pursue to stretch out tight, extending limbs and bounce to leave the earth. The difference of form and ideology between eastern and western dances is a historical result of the difference in eastern and western geography, economy, culture, etc. Different histories forge different cultures of body. We may tell western ballet of bouncing, stretching and going up from eastern (Chinese) dance of dancing, reserved and pointing to the earth when we see the standing Christ and the sitting Buddha, and church towering aloft and temple prone on a hill respectively.
