Metadata-based information organization and ontology-based knowledge organization are introduced in the network age. The authors discuss the methods for metadata-based information organization and ontology-based knowledge organization and points out that metadata and ontology meet the needs of information organization and the knowledge organization respectively. A synthetic idea of information organization and knowledge organization has also been proposed in the paper.
