Weihai's Economic Relations With ROK

地处山东半岛最东部的威海市,早在本世纪30年代,就是举世瞩目的自由贸易港,曾与40多个国家和地区直接通商。1987年经国务院批准为地级市,享受沿海开放城市的各项优惠政策。1988年3月国务院又批准将威海市所辖的荣成、文登、乳山三市作为经济开放区,全市74个乡镇为重点工业卫星镇。

Since its opening up to the outside world beginning from 1987, Weihai City has seen great achievements in its economic strength, ranking among the 50 developed cities of the country.With geographic advantage to the Republic of Korea, Weihai has attracted numerous Korean businessmen to the city for investment and other forms of economic cooperation. An economic development strategy orientated to ROK was formulated in order to entice more Korean investment and technology. In recent years, Weihai already opened four industrial and technic parks with well-conditioned facilities and incentive policies for foreign business in addition to a Korean commercial street in down town areas where all kinds of commodities are sold exclusive of some state controlled special products.Projects with Korean involvement are main medium- and small-sized enterprises. Considering Korean investment in USA, Southeast Asia, East Europe and CIS, Weihai needs to continue enhance its economic and trade cooperation with ROK while making efforts to expand its business ties with other countries and regions, particularly with Japan and Hongkong, Marcao, and Taiwan by improving its investment environment. This could lead Weihai economy to develop at optimized level.
