Talking about Su Shi's Contradictory Complex on Standing Aloof from Worldly Affairs and Getting Involved in Them

一代文豪苏轼 ,诗文书画 ,样样精通 ,然而命运蹭蹬 ,宦海沉浮 ,思想上常有出世和入世的矛盾。苏轼的思想是矛盾的 ,又是和谐的。他以儒家为本 ,博采佛道之长 ,奉儒而不迂执 ,好道而不弃世 ,既有儒家的坚韧 。

Su Shi, the eminent writer, was good at writing poems, painting and calligraphy. However, he wasn't very fortunate in life and experienced ups and downs in officialdom, which resulted in his contradictory complex in worldly affairs: sometimes, he stood aloof from them; sometimes, he got involved in them. Su Shi's thoughts were both contradictory and harmonious. He based his thoughts on the Confucian school and learned the essence of Buddhism. He pursued the Confucianism without being pedantic. He enjoyed Buddhism without being indifferent to worldly affairs. He was as firm and tenacious as a Confucian and as free and easy as a buddhist.
