The Ahom people living in Assam in the northeastern part of India is a branch of the Tai ethnic group in Yunnan of China, who immigrated into India in early period. After the British dominated the Assam area, the Ahoms' social position declined, and the ethnic nationalism germinated in discrimination, further developed in the struggle for their ethnic rights and interests; however, there is also a “pan-Tai(Dai)”thedency in the propaganda.
