Xie Rhyme": A Way Not to Be Taken

本文从异时杂糅、以音害意、拟音难据三个方面论证了“协韵”的错误，提出了读古诗韵字的原则和方法。

Xie Rhyme' means the alteration of the present pronunciation of a Chinese character for a proposed pronunciation for the sake of rhyme in reading ancient Chinese poetry. This paper expounds and proves it is wrong to adopt 'Xie Rhyme' for three reasons: firstly, it is no good making a diachronic combination of present and ancient pronunciations; secondly, such combination makes it impossible to understand the meaning; and finally, it is hard to find any support for the proposed pronunciation. Furthermore, the paper proposes the principle and methods in reading rhyme fellows in ancient Chinese poetry.
