小议“精神文明”和“物质文明”的英译

A little Talk about English Translation of Chinese Expressions “Jingshen Wenming” and “Wuzhi Wenming”

本文针对目前国内主要报刊杂志和词典在翻译“精神文明”和“物质文明”这两个词时存在的不统一现象 ,指出这两个词的汉译英在对外宣传工作中极为重要 。

In view of the existing nonuniformity in translating the Chinese expressions Jingshen wenming (精神文明)and Wuzhi wenming(物质文明)in main newspapers and periodicals and dictionaries in China,the author of this paper considers that the translation of them is very important in the foreign propaganda work and there ought to be the common run of mankind,that is,spiritual civilization and material civilization.
