美国人眼中的台湾问题

An American View of the Taiwan Question

近年台湾岛内出现的新动向使台湾问题更显突出和紧迫 ,也令美国各界人士颇为关注。他们虽对两岸统一问题抱有不同的态度 ,但大都对台海地区的安全局势尤为关切乃至担忧 ,并从这一角度出发提出了种种应对之策 ,虽观点各异 ,但明显表现出当前美国人主要是把台湾问题当作一个安全问题来看待 ,片面热衷于维持台海局势的稳定 ,回避统一问题。美国以这种心态介入台湾问题只能使局势更为复杂而无助于台湾问题的彻底解决。

The new moves on the Taiwan Island in recent years have rendered the Taiwan Question more conspicuous and urgent and aroused much concern among Americans. Although they take different attitudes toward the unification of China, most of them are especially concerned about the security situation across the Taiwan Strait and have offered policy proposals from this perspective. In spite of the lack of a consensus, Americans today seem to consider the Taiwan Question mainly as a security one and show a lopsided enthusiasm for the preservation of stability while avoiding the problem of unification. The American involvement in the Taiwan Question in this mood can only make the situation more complex and contribute little to a final solution of the problem.
