摘要
如何在教学实践中发展专业英语教师的素质和能力是提高专业英语教学的关键。本文从专门用途英语教学发展的角度着重讨论了专门用途英语教师的素质和能力，还论述了在国外发展多年的专门用途英语合作教学的多种形式，并提出适用于我国大学专业英语合作教学的形式。
The present paper outlines the origin and recent development of ESP,and it discusses the overall quality of ESP teachers.Particu larly,it points out that the rapid development of ESP programs today and the nat ure of those programs demands highly qualified ESP teachers with multi discipli nary subject knowledge and high English proficiency.After reviewing the patterns of joint teaching developed abroad,it proposes a pattern of joint teaching desi gned to satisfy the increasing demand of ESP programs in high education in China .Finally,it highlights the essentials for the joint teaching to operate in pract ice.
