摘要
本文从积极和消极两个方面概述全国大学英语等级考试实施以来的成绩和存在的问题,指出问题的实质所在,主张打破固有的思想的束缚,因势利导,逐步完善大学英语等级考试体系,使其发挥服等于大学英语教学和直接服务于社会两个方面的优势.
This paper reviews the positive aspects of the National College English Test (Band 4 and Band 6) which has been held since 1987 in China and points out the accompanying problems to be solved. The NCET was meant to be an achievement test serving as a guide to improving college English teaching in China, but has turned out to be accepted as more of a proficiency test by the society. The author suggests breaking through the stereotypes and guiding the NCET in the light of its general trend: to perfect the graded\|test system and make it serve both college English teaching and society.
