An Analysis on Concubine Zhao

有些学者在解读《红楼梦》时以反封建礼教为立足点,认为曹雪芹受其历史阶级认识的局限,以极度厌恶的心态将赵姨娘刻画成反面人物形象。其实从人物性格和心理形成的探讨中可以看出这一人物形象的存在是有其依据和合理性的,曹雪芹只是艺术性地典型再现这一人物形象,并无贬低之意。

Basing on anti-feudalism's ethics, certain scholars read The Dream of the Red Mansion and concluded that Cao Xueqing depicted concubine Zhao as a negative character with great detestation because of his limited recognition of history and class. Factually, probing into the formation of her characteristic and psychology, one can draw up the conclusion that the existence of the figure was well-founded and reasonable. Cao Xueqing only intended to use her character artistically and classically instead of belittling her.
