Urban Expansion and Driving Force of the Cities Under the Provincial Government in the Past Decade

以遥感和地理信息系统为主要技术手段,利用LandsatTM影像提取河北省省辖市1987年和2000年的城市用地信息,结合社会经济统计数据进行叠加分析,表明城市用地有不同程度的增加,城区扩展的主要驱动力为人口数量的增加和经济的发展。自然地理环境影响部分城市用地规模和土地集约化程度。发展大城市,提高城市用地的集约化水平,是河北省城市化发展的必由之路。

To reveal the change of urban land use, the authors applied remote sensing and GIS to obtain information of land use in 1987 and 2000 in the cities directly under the provincial government of Hebei Province from two Landsat TM images. An analysis of the information integrated with socio-economic data indicates that there has been an increase in urban land use in all these cities, and that the driving force of urban expansion involves urban-economic development and non-agricultural population increase. Natural environment has an effect on the scale and level of intensive use of urban land. Developing big cities and improving the level of intensive use of urban land are both necessary for the urbanization of the province.
