“移就”在汉诗英译中的应用

On Transferred Epithet in English Translation of Chinese Poems

移情是主体和客体和谐统一的感情产物,其美学效果在语言表达上往往通过“移就”(英语称转移修饰)辞格体现出来。文章先比较若干英译汉诗移情的佳作,后以《逢入京使》和《枫桥夜泊》为例,着重探讨如何充分利用诗歌语言的弹性和诗体结构有限的运作空间,精心谴辞,巧用转移修饰辞法,以求传达汉诗的神韵,再现汉诗的意境。

Empathy is the emotional result of harmonious unity of the subject and object, and its aesthetic effect is usually realized by transferred epithets. With an analysis of the good English translations of some empathetic Chinese poems and with the English translations of 'Meeting a Messenger Going to the Capital' and 'A Night Mooring by the Maple Bridge' as an example, this paper argues that the success of reproduction of the essence and artistic conception of the original in translating empalhetic Chinese poems lies in the translator s careful choice of words, appropriate application of transferred epithets, and full use of the flexibility of the poetic language in the limited structural space.
