Marcuse's View on Aesthetical Form and Ideology

Marcuse's understanding to the ideology of literature and art is different from the 'traditional' Marxism, namely he considers that the political potential of literature and art exist in the aesthetical form rather than the content of works, especally presents a critique of the vulgar materialism that make a simple understanding to the theory of ideology. For the different standpoint and cultural context, we often misunderstand this view. But studying Marcuse' s viewpoint in depth could take an illuminating effect on how to analyze and evaluate the situation of culture in the highly commercialized society.
