Order and Meaning in City Image

“秩序”和“意义”是营造良好城市意象的两个重要途径。“秩序”代表城市的结构和关联,营造秩序的城市意象就是要形成一部分固定、明确、可寻的城市意象,强调节点在城市意象中的重要性;而意义蕴涵了城市的特色和人文情趣,意义的城市意象应当是绝大多数人可以达成共识的群体意象。由于人类文化的多元并存,既没有统一的“秩序”的城市意象,也不存在通用的“意义”的城市意象,城市规划师在营造城市意象时,应从区域性的群体意象需求出发,创造出鲜明的、有活力的可读的现代城市意象。

Order and meaning are two important approaches to good city image. Order represents city structure and linkage, and orderly cityimage requires clear, fixed and detectable images, and importance of nodes is emphasized; while meaning embodies city features and culturaltaste. However, there is neither common order in city image, nor a universal meaning. Regional mass requirements in image should be the basisin creating lively, readable modern city image.[
