中国佛学的本体观念与世界上大多数哲学都不相同 ,它是一种非本体的本体论。它以缘生为理论基础 ,否定外在的本体 ,并以性空为实相 ,顺化而为实相非相的本体论。建立在缘生基础上的因果论 ,多因多果以及因果无限延续 ,不仅凸现了非本体的倾向 ,而且置因果必然性于条件偶然性的架构之中。相对主义与虚无主义之辩 ,进一步说明非本体论超二元对立的思维基础。言不可言之趣 ,说不可说之理 ,则是佛家非本体的本体诠释的一般方法。

Chinese Buddhist philosophy has an ontology which is actually anti ontological, making it different from most other philosophies in the world. It takes the twelve nidanas as its theoretical basis, repudiates external ontology, treats the immateriality of the nature of all things as the absolute fundamental reality and further evolves into an ontology that advocates that Reality is Nullity.
