Yuan Haowen is a prominent master of poetry and essays in the Jin dynasty. This paper makes an analysis of the great accomplishment he made in the composition of poetry and essays, in the exploration of theories, as well as in his compilation of historical materials of the Jin dynasty. Meanwhile, the paper affirms the significant contributions he made to the dissemination of Confucianism, the protection of intellectuals, and the promotion of unity and friendship among Chinese nationalities.
