散文的魅力乃是人格魅力的直陈。沈从文遵从“乡下人”质朴心灵的呼唤,自由无畏地在《从文自传》里说真话、讲实话,客观实录湘西故里的美、丑、善、恶;同时,他又是一个对人性满怀深邃温爱的人道主义歌者。在《从文自传》里,客观的写实与温暖的抒情水乳交融,他真正做到了理随事变,宽廓非外;事得理融,寂寥非内。

The charm of prose speaks for the charm of character.Shen Congwen complies with the call of countrymen's simple hearts.Freely and dauntlessly he tells truth in his autobiography and objectively the beauty,ugliness,good and evil in his hometown,the west of Hunan Province .On the other hand,he sings the praises of humanism in which there is deep love for human nature.In his autobiography,objective and realistic writing is in complete harmony with warm expression of emotions.He does manage to make truth change with situations and matters melted for reason;also he realizes that truth is endless but within the mind ,and loneliness is spiritual but lies in universe.
