XML Key Management Specification(XKMS) is a XML-based Public Key Infrastructure PKI. It has the interoperability of XML and the security of PKI,and provides an interoperable security infrastructure for applications.The article describes the concept and the basic component of XKMS, and analyses the message formats of XKMS. The XKMS application model is given. This article also analyses and studies the security of XKMS itself.
