This thesis analyses the main functions and the evolvement of the western higher education, and analyses the philosophy thoughts what influenced higher education in every period from the close relation between education and philosophy. In the future, philosophy ideology is still a important factor which will make effects on higher education. Today it is very important to choose suitable philosophy ideologies to instruct the development of higher education from the complex philosophy system.
