Context is a shared concern in the discussion of language and language use. On the basis of the new definition of context, the paper makes a thorough probe into its essential features philosophically. Then the paper proceeds to argue that translation is, in essence, the transfer of context, and that the tolerability of context transfer determines translatability and the extent to which translation occurs.
