增补翻译是英汉互译中最重要的技巧之一,目的是使译文符合译入语的表达习惯和修辞特点,从而使译文与原文在内容、形式和精神三方面对等起来。文章从概念内涵意义、所指意义及文化背景三个方面探讨了增补翻译的使用场合。

The method of amplification is one of the most important techniques in E-C and C-E translation. Its purpose is to make the translation conform to the habitual usage and rhetoric characteristics of target language, and to make the transform to the original text in content, form and spirit. This paper aims at the occasion on which the method of amplification should be used. The three aspects are: conceptual and connotative meaning and amplification; the signified meaning and amplification; cultural background and amplification.
