The function word “liuliu' is widely used in the mandarin dialect areas. Its co-existence in the many other dialects reflects its historical evolution. Based on the dialect materials,this article discusses the origin of “liuliu' and its sense extension,at the same time illustrates some particular usages of 'liuliu' from the aspect of prosody.
