Sun and Microsoft reached an agreement on patent issues, with payment of $1.6 billion rendered to Sun. Under the 10-year pact with Microsoft, the software company will pay Sun $700 million to resolve antitrust issues and $900 million to resolve patent issues. Scott McNealy ,Sun's chairman and CEO, a right buckaroo, has to accept the olive branch that is made in cash. Intel pays Intergraph 225 million to resolve patent issues, which appears to be a little trick. Hewlett-Packard has sued against Gateway, accusing the latter of violating six technology patents relating to desktop, notebook, and server computer systems. CEO of Hua-Wei company, Ren Zhengfei said: 'The patent of private protocol is just like onychomycosis, but We have got rid of it'. These dissensions of patents explained why patent has become a weapon in business competition.
