郁达夫的小说多以失意的青年知识分子为描写对象,常进行大胆的自我暴露,在一定程度上反映了“五四”以后中国半封建半殖民地社会的黑暗现实,如实地写出了小资产阶级知识分子和其他下层人民的痛苦,抒情性强,富于浪漫主义的感伤气息,在“五四”以来新文学的发展过程中曾形成了别具一格的小说流派。

In YuDafu's novels, frastrated youth were main charater of his discreption. He often bravely laid bare his thoughts. To a certain degree, his novel exactly reflected the dark reality of half-feudal and colonial China after ' 5.4 Movement', and the deep arrow of bourgeois intellectual and under-class people. His novels were full of feeling and sentimental romanticism. It formed a very special characteristic in the development of novels after ' 5.4 Movement'.
