Yu Yingshi′s works'The Historical World of Zhi Xi' delivered more detailed historical research regarding the key function of political struggle on the development of Neo-Confucianism and Zhu Xi′s thought. Through a survey to Zhu Xi′s historical world, Yu delivered a new route replacing the mainstream study of philosophy history, which combines Neo-Confucicmist with political cultures. To Neo-Confucicmist, political culture is more fundamental than philosophy. Understanding political culture and party struggle are significant to the understanding of Zhu Xi′s, as well as other literati's, thoughts.
