Social Power Relations and the Violation of the Cooperative Principle

本文拟从言语交际中不同社会关系的角度探讨社会权势关系与格赖斯会话合作原则的背离。首先简单介绍格赖斯的合作原则。然后较详细地从正相关系、反相关系两方面用例证说明了因为权势关系而背离合作原则的情况。最后简单小结权势关系跟背离合作原则行为之间的关系。

This paper intends to discuss social power relations and the violation of the Gricean Cooperative Principle from the point of view of the participants in speech communication, who are in different social relations. It consists of three parts. The first part introduces H. P. Grice’s Cooperative Principle. The second part illustrates in detail the instances of violations of the Cooperative Principle as a result of the different social statuses the participants are in, showing both the positive and negative effects of the social relations. The third part summarizes briefly the connection between the social power relations and the violation of the Cooperative Principle.
