An Analysis of the Appellations of Ancient Chinese Schools

中国古代学校的名称各异 ,古人的解释互有抵牾 ,特别是认为“庠、序、学、校”四语是时代不同而产生的词语。根据考古和民俗学研究 ,可以认为“庠、序、校”是地方学校 ,而“学”是古代国学。“明堂、辟雍、泮宫、灵台”等为国学的异名同实之称。

There are a lot of differences between the appellations of ancient Chinese schools, explanations of which are sometimes in contradiction with one another. It was thought xiang, xu, xiao, xue had been generated from different ages. According to the study of archaeology and folklore, we affirm that xiang, xu, xiao are local schools and xue is a national school. Mingtang, biyong, pangong, lingtai are different names of national schools.
