This paper presents an outline of Ning Chien's career of sediment research and his major achievements, comments on his book entitled “Mechanics of Sediment Transport”,and a brief introduction to each chapter of the book.Meanwhile,the author’s viewpoint on some issues of sediment research are also presented.
