Intertexuality and Poetry Translation

The paper mainly examines the relationship between intertextuality and poetry translation. Intertextuality is the precondition for understanding all texts and it highlights the inter dependence and impact on the intertext. By quoting Julia Kristeva's view that every text is constructed as a mosaic of citations and every text is an absorption and transformation of other texts, the author considers that there exist abundant intertextualities in East West poetry in terms of verse rhythm, imagery and intentionality. As a translator, on the one hand, one must be appreciative of the intertextualities in poetry and on the other hand, he must adopt adequate strategies to convey faithfully the intertextual affinities. The author concludes that the study between intertextuality and poetry translation will shed new perspective and light on translation studies.
