摘要
随着对外资零售的全面解禁,我们第一次有机会如此近距离地研究一个同样以劳动密集型和低成本取胜的超级跨国企业。
To Asian regional president of Wal-Mart Mr. Zhong Haowei, recently one more item is added into his busy schedule. He flies frequently to various the second-level cities round China for the purpose of selecting locations for its new shops. China's Ministry of Commerce published a new regula- tion about administration in foreign-funded commercial field at this April, the regional restriction on foreign-funded retailing companies is eliminated. The second-level cities are becoming major battlefields for all the giant retail- ers including Wal-Mart and Carrefour and Chinese counterparts. China's retailing market features both the broadness of American market and the diversity of European market. Everyone thinks there are a lot of opportunities. Facing the heavy pressure from Wal-Mart and other transnationals, Chinese retailing companies should learn from Wal-Mart. In fact, there are many similarities between Wal- Mart and Chinese retailing companies. Both of them grow from grass-root and build up from nothing, they are labour-inten- sive companies without a cloak of hi-tech and seek low cost. Chi- nese retailers should learn a lot if they study the low-cost opera- tion of Wal-Mart. Except launch- ing satellites, Chinese can do the same such as training staff and esteeming staff as Wal-Mart.
