Based on a series of experimental studies on local compression and reinforced concrete, a theory of failure formation and cuneiform splitting of concrete and reinforced concrete under local compression is put forward. A method for calculating its cracking strength and bearing capacity under local compression has been set up and evaluation criteria of the base area A_b are given.
